In 2012, the Open University of China was founded based on the existing China Central Radio & TV University. The Ministry of Education’s Approval for the Establishment of the Open University of China, founded through the China Central Radio & TV University proposed that the OUC should "further form an effective quality assurance system."
On 22nd May 2017, at the OUC Weishanzhuang conference centre, 31 elite tutors from the art major of 23 OUC branches gathered in Beijing to listen to the lecture Cutting Edge Interior Design Concept delivered by Professor Li Chaoyang from Tsinghua University Academy of Art and Design.
The Open University of China started the work of applying for approval of Bachelor’s degree-granting to Beijing Academics Degree Committee (BADC) in 2013.
In 2016, the OUC's Opinions on Promoting the Construction of the School Organisational System and Opinions on Strengthening the OUC Headquarters’ Teaching Departments for the Coordinated Management of Teaching were successively promulgated.
The Open University of China (OUC) held a working conference on the pilot constructing of online teaching team in Beijing on 23rd March, 2017. The conference was presented teachers in the RTVU system nationwide through distance live broadcasting. All conference participants agree that the conference is of great significance and importance for promoting online teaching team construction against the current situations.
In order to comprehensively implement the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress and the 3rd, 4th, 5th Plenary Sessions of 18th CPC Central Committee, implement the Outline of China’s National Plan for Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development (2010-2020), successfully run the open university, and promote the construction of a learning-oriented society, in January 2016 the Ministry of Education (MOE) issued the MOE’s Opinions on Successfully Operating Open Universities, stressing that the OUC should cater to the new demands of economic and social development, make use of the achievements of modern information technology, and explore a school operation model for open universities with Chinese characteristics.
On 21st June 2012, the Ministry of Education (MOE) approved the establishment of the Open University of China (OUC) on the foundation of China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU). On 31st July, the MOE held the unveiling ceremony for the OUC at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and state councillor Liu Yandong attended the conference and made an important speech.
During July 6 and 7, 2016, a working conference on the OUC’s development was held in Hefei, Anhui Province.
