Zhuo Jixiong, 50, is a member of the Communist Party of China. He entered the junior-college Law programme at China Central Radio and TV University in spring 2005, and is now deputy general manager of the Fuding Power Supply Company of State Grid Fujian Electric Power.

Since joining the company in 1988 as an emergency-repair worker he has remained attached to the grass-roots as leader of production, construction, operations and maintenance teams, and is widely popular.

He has been named a  National Labour Model, Excellent Communist Party Member of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Excellent Communist Party Member of Fujian Province, Model of Professional Ethics of Fujian Province (top ten), and Ningde Labour Model, while also being awarded a National May Day Labour Medal. In 2007, he was elected a deputy to the 11th Fujian Provincial People's Congress.

Responsible and Idealistic

In 1999, because of his superb skills and responsible attitude, he was elected leader of the 110 power-line emergency-repair team. The emergency-repair centre is responsible not just for repairs but also the maintenance and alteration of distribution lines and equipment at 10kV and below in 3 offices and 31 administrative villages in Fuding City, as well as over 4,000 street lamps, serving more than 50,000 customers in the city.

An ice storm, the worst in 50 years, hit Sanming, Fujian, before the 2008 Spring Festival,  seriously damaging the power grid in Jianning County. Afterward, he led a repair team to Kefang Township in Jianning County, on the border between Fujian and Jiangxi, to help repair three damaged 10KV lines and 6 transformers, restoring power to more than 2,000 households.

2020 saw the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, and he led strict implementation of the control requirements. Along with strengthened operations and maintenance of the power grid, he carried out special inspections as well as equipment temperature and load measurements at Fuding isolation centres, the municipal hospital, and township health centres. He also deployed "special teams" and visited centres such as hospitals and bus stations while establishing a "one-on-one" 24-hour emergency-contact line for power-protection units, guaranteeing that essential services would have a reliable supply of power.

Committed to his Ideals

Diagnosed with lung and thyroid cancer in 2017 and 2018 respectively, he nonetheless returned to work soon after surgery, working overnight when needed, taking part in major emergency repairs during the peak summer season, and fighting the effects of floods and typhoons. He refused to rest, saying, "Our party and country have awarded me many honours. I must live up to my ideals and stand as a model to my team."

In daily life, he has never forgotten his ideals, leading as both a Party member and model worker to supply power to thousands of homes.
